The mission of United Dentists of Kansas is to promote and protect a high standard of oral health for the people of Kansas, to support patient choice and the freedom of dentists to provide quality care through education and advocacy, and to engage in any lawful act or activity for which the entity may be organized for the laws of Kansas.
The intent of this website is to share general information about our goals and endeavors, gather signatures for petitions, and raise funds to accomplish our goals of protecting the dental profession. More detailed information about our endeavors can be found on the United Dentists of Kansas Facebook Page.
Important Note: Due to Federal Trade Commission antitrust laws, it is illegal to stage boycotts, refuse to participate as a group, engage in price-fixing, etc. This organization explicitly prohibits any such activity among its members. The goal of this group is to share experiences and to seek ways to better deal with the restraints put on patients and dentists by the economics and perceptions of managed care.
STANDING UP FOR QUALITY CARE, PATIENT CHOICE, AND FAIRNESS
IN THE PROFESSION OF DENTISTRY
As a dentist, you can make a difference.
We need your support.
Please donate to help us help YOU!
Suggested donation is at least $200. We are dentists, not attorneys. Therefore, most of the funds raised will go toward legal expenses. Please consider that this is a very small amount compared to what insurance companies take from us each and every day!
Any excess funds will be donated to dental-related causes and charitable organizations.
NEWS & IMPORTANT INFORMATION
IMPORTANT UPDATE 2/8/2021
Background: In December of 2020, Delta Dental of Kansas’ Board of Directors voted to amend the organization’s Articles of Incorporation in such a way that it essentially strips dentists of the ability to make any bylaw amendments that the DDKS management doesn’t like. Furthermore, they voted to award entrenched positions to the six non-dentist members of the board. This was in response to our proposed bylaw amendments in 2019 and 2020. After several months of Delta’s legal maneuvering to prevent these proposals, we requested a sit-down meeting with the Board of Directors to discuss their objections and to allow the voices of their dentist “partners” to be heard. We received no response from them for several weeks until we were made aware of this drastic machination that was snuck in behind our backs and behind the backs of the four elected dentist board members.
In response, we have sued the Directors and the Company as a nominal Defendant to set aside their Amendments to the Articles and Bylaws and restore control to the membership, and not for monetary damages. We have concluded that we have solid legal standing to contest that Delta’s actions are illegal and invalid, and we have filed a lawsuit against Delta Dental of Kansas and their Board of Directors to put this issue in front of the courts. Doing so could be a huge win for our profession as it will enable us to proceed with our much-needed bylaw amendments once and for all. To read the detail of the petition, and the facts stated therein, that we’ve submitted to the court, please click below.
This legal battle will undoubtedly cost tens of thousands of dollars, and a tremendous amount of financial support will be needed to cover the legal expenses. A favorable ruling in this case will be a huge win for dentists and our patients. A ruling in favor of Delta will give Delta even more unchecked control over their contracted providers and policy holders. Your support in this endeavor is absolutely vital. Please DONATE to support these efforts!
THE NON-PROFIT WHOSE TOP EXEC EARNS MORE THAN APPLE'S CEO
You’ve probably heard of, and may even have, Delta Dental insurance. But did you know that the main entity behind it, Delta Dental of California, which operates plans using the Delta name in 16 states, is a tax-exempt nonprofit? Because of the public good it supposedly does, you subsidize it...
EMERGING ADVOCACY GROUPS SUPPORT SMALL BUSINESS DENTISTRY
Small business dentistry is increasingly establishing advocacy groups designed to address specific issues. Areas of concern range from protecting the doctor/patient relationship against the intrusion of the insurance industry and corporate dentistry to honest evaluation and solutions for the public’s “access to care.”
